How the calculation works

loss = (before − after) ÷ before; starting size = target × before ÷ after

Run width and length separately. The sample may grow, producing a negative loss; that is valid here. The main planner accepts losses from 0–80%, so use the calculated starting measurement directly for projects with growth.

Worked example

A sample that changes from 10 to 8.5 has 15% loss. A finished target of 20 requires 23.53 before finishing, not 23.
