Make estimates more reliable without false precision

Choose where to round, what to measure, and what to record after finishing.

A calculator can produce many decimal places from uncertain inputs. That does not make the yarn estimate equally precise. The most useful improvements usually come from measuring your sample and your actual loom waste.

Round at the right stage

Keep the calculation values unrounded while estimating. Round warp ends upward to a complete threading repeat. Then round each yarn or color upward to the package size you can buy. A meter conversion in the middle should not silently drop an end.

Check the biggest drivers

More pieces increase both woven warp and weft. A denser beat raises weft requirements. A wider body increases both end count and the distance each weft pick travels. Larger outside loom waste affects warp alone.

Compare the result with experience

After weaving, record the actual finished measurements, yarn remaining, and any changes made during weaving. Keep the sample alongside the plan. Use the next estimate as a controlled adjustment from that evidence.
